Windows 10 home retail usb free. About this item

I purchased a copy of windows 10 home retail: the choices were a box set usb, or download. I got the usb box, and found - to my surprise - from the instructions that it's a bootable unit - needs the BIOS set for 'boot from usb'.

I've asked the motherboard manufacturer how to include a usb port in the BIOS boot priority. Pending that, more information about the download option please - I may have to exchange the box usb unit for a box download item.

How does that download work to do the upgrade - is it. I do this regularly for backup software bootable recovery disks, so it's a well travelled workflow. Let me share the link to you. Run the tool, and follow the on-screen instructions. However, if you have purchased Windows 10 from Microsoft Store, you can contact our Microsoft Store support team and check for return of your purchase.

Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. I downloaded the tool, and tried a download. Some questions about the experience so far:. Downloading the ISO disk images typically about Mb does not take that long on a 50mbps broadband link. And it takes quite a while to get not very far. Is it really downloading an ISO file? How big is the file?

ISO normally is for disks of 4. Please confirm. Next morning. Run the media tool again - the options are a bit misleading -making a disk with an iso file can be for "this PC" as well.

When I chose the create media option for another PC, the iso file was available. The tool evidently auto detected 64bits, and down the iso file came - all 4. One DVD actually pretty full. I burnt the iso file to disk, and ran the PC to boot from it.

I've confirmed that a disk created from the iso file will boot, and I'll do the actual upgrade after a whole-of-system backup this weekend. I hope you will be able to install Windows on your computer using the DVD. In various upgrade documents, it's made pretty clear that an in-place upgrade something I made fairly clear in a number of posts about this topic that I wanted to do from windows 7 to windows 10 is supported. It's all about upgrading using media creation files, specifically a DVD created from the iso file, and from a read of that document comes a commentary and 2 questions.

On page2, and important tip: an in-place upgrade can only be initiated from within a running windows 7 session. I think that's very misleading. Fortunately I noticed this before I started or I'd have been very pissed off. If using a bootable DVD as the source of the install files, albeit from within windows 7 session, how is a boot from DVD the iso file is a bootable image and the DVD burnt from it equally so prevented on re-start and thus screwing up the entire installation? On page 11, It goes straight from Installing windows10 to recovery in windows Malfunctions are linked in the text to updates updates may resolve technical issues - cite on page Why would a check for updates not be included in the guide as a step to take after install was complete?

How is a check for updates done? It's done, successfully but with one problem. And despite all the checking for updates during the upgrade process, there were 3 updates waiting for download when it was finished.

Did those manually. The one problem relates to the mouse. Point and click works fine, but the scroll wheel - that worked fine in windows 7 - is now not functional at all. The settings item for the USB mouse has the scroll wheel enabled and set for 3 lines per notch, it's been checked and applied, but the scroll wheel on the mouse is stubbornly not working. The page on the 'advanced wheel mouse' from the apps list on the left of the main desktop says its version 6.

I've tried advanced wheel mode and MS compatible mode, without any success. However, as you have mentioned that you are unable to use the Mouse Scroll wheel, I would like to know the make and model of the computer and mouse that you are using. I would also suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue persists.

Refer the steps mentioned in the article Create a local user or administrator account in Windows The computer motherboard is a gigabyte unit, as is the mouse. I tried a brand new HP mouse as a replacement, and got the same result. All the circumstances suggested a mouse driver issue - esp since the wheel mouse scrolled just fine under win7 on the day and operation in which the OS was upgraded, and the scroll wheel was non-functional in win10 thereafter.

The driver installed with win10 was a complete unknown - had never heard of advanced wheel mouse before. Whilst waiting for a response from you, a friend suggested a fix - the basics of which was to uninstall the existing mouse driver and let windows replace it. Which I did. Glad to know that replacing the Mouse driver resolved the issue. I suspect that it could be an issue with the driver as the computer was upgraded from Windows 7, it might be using an older driver that was not compatible with Windows However, I think everything is working fine now.
